About the project:

The overall objective of the project was the contribution to the improvement of accountability and transparency of local self-governments in Montenegro in line with the principles of good governance. Specific objective is the strengthening of cooperation between the NGOs on the national and local level with local media for the better efficiency in the implementation of Free Access to Information Law (FAI) in the municipalities of Kotor, Podgorica and Pljevlja.

Local Correspondents Network – A series of investigative stories and media promotion for accountability of the Local Self-Government Units (LSGUs)

About the project:

The main objective of the project is raising awareness in LSGUs about the right of access to public information and the need for accountability of institutions, indicated through on-time providing of information upon request of external stakeholders, as well as through raising the quality and the quantity of public information available through official channels of the LSGUs. The greatest achievement is the voice the project gave to the citizens’ initiatives on the local municipal level. These initiatives articulated the requests by the citizens for the protection of the public interests in the area of environmental protection, urban planning, traffic and communal infrastructure. The media popularization of the actions and activities of citizens’ initiatives Ohrid SOS, In defence of DebarMaalo, We are Karposh, The citizens for Taftalidze, contributed to established relations with the institutions, starting from inspectorates, though the Ombudsman to the courts.

Strengthening the influence of citizens in determining the priorities of the Local Self Government Units (LSGU)

About the project:

The main objective of the project was to establish the synergy between LSGU and civic organizations to enhance the capacity of civil society, the local and urban communities and media so they can influence the LSGU to make opportunity for initiatives and activism, where the citizens, local and urban communities, media and business sector together with the local administration can transparently determine the priorities and jointly decide which are the thorny issues of the local community. The main results achieved through project implementation are: Raising the level of civic activism as one of the mechanisms to correct the wrong policies in local government and improved mechanisms for participatory democracy and creation of a better environment for the involvement of civil society in decision-making at the local level.

About the project:

The goal of this project was to improve the external consultation in the policy creation processes oflocal self-governance units (LSGU) from the South-East region in Macedonia, through comparative analysis of current practices, mutual learning among the LSGU and policy recommendations for the LSGU,civil society organizations and citizens. The project was implemented in following municipalites of the South-East region in Macedonia: Bogdanci, Bosilovo, Valandovo, Vasilevo, Gevgelija, Dojran, Konche, Novo Selo, Radovish, Strumica.
